As hurricane season approaches, people in Central Florida begin preparing for a storm to hit. People rush to hardware stores and purchase necessary items such as plywood and tape. If your home is in danger of getting hit, there are several areas that you must inspect and make sure are fully protected and safe:

2. Windows: Taping up windows is just a waste of time. Yes, it will keep the glass from flying, but it does not fully protect them from breaking. If a window breaks, the wind applies an upward pressure to the roof, which can cause the walls to collapse.


3. Doors: Make sure all doors are tightly closed and locked. When winds pick up, there is a possibility of doors opening if they are not firmly secured. If this occurs, wind enters your home and pushes up on the roof as mentioned above.


4. Plants and Items in the Yard: Make sure you secure all plants or items that you may have lying around your yard.  Plants or other items such as trashcans can cause damage to your home as the wind picks up.
